Vassilis Papaekonomou aims to help growers meet various requirements

An online portal has been designed to allow growers to ensure they meet the requirement of international standard certifiers.

The Artemis resource from Greek agronomist Vassilis Papaekonomou allows growers to enter information and receive advice to aid them in gaining certification from bodies such as GLOBALGAP.

Artemis can also be used to meet the requirements asked by retailers such as Sainsbury’s if companies wish to know information such as the quantity and frequency of crop sprays.

The portal allows growers to build field profiles which displays the size, varieities and pesticides used within it which can be directly access for commercial and certification reasons alike.

“There’s no doubt we need consistent quality and we believe with operations such as the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and GLOBALGAP becoming so important growers need to protect their crops by being certain they will meet the required standards.

“Whatever you plan the impact on the environment is so important at the moment and with all these checklists having a resource like this is important at every stage from harvest and delivery to packing,” Papaekonomou told freshinfo.

Artemis has already certified more than 1300 growers, the majority for GLOBALGAP certification, and is available in Greek and English currently.
