'The label recommendation is to apply SL567A at any time within six weeks of drilling,' said Michael Tait, the company's vegetable technical manager. The latest trials were conducted last year by Adas in Nottinghamshire and the Stockbridge Technology Centre in Yorkshire. 'They have shown significant advantages from application when the crop is at the first true leaf, rather than immediately post drilling,' said Tait. 'They also confirmed there is no advantage from split-dose applications at drilling and post-emergence.' And the percentage of unmarketable roots as a result of cavity spot was reduced to just one per cent with the single application at first true leaf compared to 35 per cent in an untreated sample.

The product is available for the first time in new one-litre packs this year.
