The School of Horticulture at Writtle College, hosted an industry morning recently to offer students an expert insight into the varied job roles available within the horticulture industry.

Both Higher and Further Education horticulture students attended the sessions, which offered insight into the diversity of roles available within the horticulture industry and can inspire students to follow similar pathways.

Industry experts talked openly about their career pathways including the constraints and positives, discussing how students can build their own career within the horticulture industry.

Ian Bull, superintendent of RHS Hyde Hall, spoke about his career to date, offering advice to students interested in following a similar route.

Paul Stacey, parks & landscape manager at Mole Valley, who is studying for his MSc in Landscape Management, spoke about his continued studies and progression within his current role at Mole Valley Council.

Ambassador for LANTRA Paul Campbell, urban designer for Designs for London, offered students a wealth of knowledge in his varied roles, including adviser for the National Trust.

Donna Sheringham, recruitment & admissions officer for horticulture, said: “The School of Horticulture continues to invite experienced and knowledgeable employers as an enhancement exercise for students and to enrich their overall learning while here at college.

“Industry sessions can offer students a real advantage and show opportunities to develop their CV through the advice and support generated at the events.”
