Captain Carrot takes to the road

The puppet entertained children at Inglehurst Infants School, Leicester with his healthy eating performance fighting against the evil Baron Von Burger and the Noxious Nuggets aided by his girlfriend Susie Sweet Onion.

“Our whole focus is on children this year,” said Caroline Kenyon who is running the campaign for the BCGA. We will also be bringing out six new recipes for children to coincide with the start of the season and launching a children’s website with colouring sheets and fact sheets for kids to download.”

Puppeteer Simon Bamford and his Carro-Van, sponsored by Kettle Produce have already visited schools in Lincolnshire, Wiltshire and Suffolk and have a schedule lined up until well into the autumn already. Growers also turn up at the schools to hand out their produce for children to sample and help drive home the message of healthy eating and the provenance of the vegetables. Teachers at the schools that the roadshow has visited so far report lasting effects on the children who have enjoyed the performance with their sing-along songs with kids continuing to talk about the visit long after the Carro-Van has departed.
