Capespan UK has scooped the national Co-op award as Supplier of the Year for regional product for its supply of Scottish tomatoes.

The firm was also nominated for two other awards, Collaborative Fresh Produce Supplier of the Year and Packaging Supplier of the Year, but scooped the top gong ahead of 800 other Co-op suppliers.

Suppliers to The Co-op, which has 10 million members, include representatives of the food, financial, travel, pharmaceutical and legal sectors.

Capespan trading director Martin Dunnett said: “This is a fantastic award to win considering the formidable world-class competitors.

“But being nominated for three awards was quite something. Kudos is due to the excellent team led by David Robertson, whose hard work in category management certainly has paid off,” he said.

Dunnett stressed that the award was a reflection of how involved Capespan was in The Co-op across a wide range of products.
