The annual Capespan Golf Day was held at the Belfry last weekend, as a thank you for the support of the company's wholesaler panellists.

This year, the competition was played out on the very demanding Brabazon course, which was used for the last Ryder cup.

There were many similarities with that wonderful final day last year. The weather was brilliant, the golf was reportedly excellent too ñ and the winners were all European. OK, there were no Americans taking part, but never miss a chance to mention a victory.

During the afternoon, whilst the serious golfers were out on the course, Capespan arranged for non-golfers to participate in a putting competition, with a bottle of Champagne for the winner. No doubt, the non-golfers enjoyed a few glasses before greeting the plus-foured crew at the 19th for the evening festivities.

An additional bonus, once everyone was seated for evening dinner, was an announcement from Sandy Jones of the Professional Golfers Association that an extremely special guest would be joining the dinner, the Ryder Cup itself. What could be better ñ a guest that can't drink, and won't nick food off your plate?

During the evening, every guest had the opportunity to have their photograph taken holding the magnificent trophy ñ which is in European hands at the moment, did we already mention that?

Overall winner of the event was John Lisweski of George Jackson, Birmingham, while the winning team, who received their prizes from Capespan's Martin Dunnett, were Neil Docker (Capespan), Daragh Curran (Fyffes Ireland), Mike Morgan (Greenery, Manchester) and Francis McKernan (Fyffes Ireland).
