California creaming

The multi-faceted celebration, held at Oxnard’s Strawberry Coast was presented by the California Strawberry Festival Executive Board which offered a host of activities including an array of strawberry foods, live concerts, “Strawberryland For Kids” fun zone, gooey contests, and an award-winning Fine Arts & Crafts showcase with more than 300 artisans from throughout the US. Never in short supply, fresh strawberries were available by the pint, and potted strawberry plants were available to take home.

While remaining focused on its founding principles of providing a high-quality celebration, the Board updated the event programme for 2004 to include a new contest area with a Strawberry Hill climbing wall and Strawberry Thrill bungee jump while an ambitious recycling campaign encouraged festival goers to join the “green team” to recycle. To assist with the flow of traffic, a free park and ride Strawberry Express system of buses enabled visitors to save time and money. A strawberry shortcake eating contest and a strawberry relay race were among the activities for children.
