Sarah Calcutt, business development manager at English fruit marketing desk Norman Collett, has been awarded a Nuffield Scholarship, and will spend the next 18 months researching and analysing fruit marketing campaigns around the world, specifically visiting New Zealand, South Africa and the US.
The scholarship was awarded by the Worshipful Company of Fruiterers and financed by Bayer CropScience.
Calcutt told FPJ: “There is a real challenge in the whole concept of selling - getting the product range right, profit for all parties, and packaging and marketing to get the attention of the multiple buyers and the domestic customer.
“There is an amazing opportunity for the UK top-fruit industry to change its image - the agronomic work is moving very swiftly but we are lagging behind with the public’s perception of the product,” she added.
