Sainsbury's has promoted supply chain director Roger Burnley to give him the additional responsibility for retail operations, in addition to his existing role.
Burnley’s move follows the announcement that Ken McMeikan, who was retail director, is moving to Greggs, the bakery and food-to-go chain.
Chief executive Justin King said: "Over the past three years Ken has made a significant contribution to our recovery and I wish him every success for the future. Following Ken's decision, I believe that this is an appropriate moment to now bring the management of our retail and logistics operations together. Huge progress has been made in our performance during the past three years of our Making Sainsbury's Great Again plan. This move will allow us to continue to improve the performances of both our stores and depots, ensuring we deliver an even better service to our customers.
"Roger has 20 years experience in retail, both in food operations at Asda and also within non-food at Matalan and B&Q. His breadth of experience means he is well qualified to lead his new team and bring about further improvements as we continue to move from recovery to growth," he added.
