Dutch bulb growers have taken a further step toward environmentally sustainable production with the introduction of new standards.
The Royal Bulbgrowers Association in the Netherlands has devised a new certification system, PrimaBol, derived from EurepGAP, which aims to improve environmental production, storage and overall quality.
Audits will be carried out by ECAS, a European certification body for the agriculture sector.
A spokesman for the association said: “This system enables growers to show government authorities and professional buyers how their product is not only environmentally friendly, but is also produced and stored to the highest quality.
“In the near future, PrimaBol will be of increasing importance to growers, traders, retailers and consumers in answering questions about the way bulbs are produced in relation to the environment.”
