Budgens is continuing its support of UK growers with the launch of a 100 per cent English Braeburn fortnight.
Until December 12, all Braeburn bought in Budgens stores will be English produced apples, said buyer Danny Grover.
He said: "Apple growers are increasing plantings of Braeburn every year, which is good news for Budgens as our long term aim is to replace all our Braeburn imports with homegrown.
"Import substitution offers growers the best opportunity of increasing the volume of English apples sold to UK retailers."
At the moment, the retailer is sourcing its apples from three growers, Melvin Newman in Kent, Alan Hudson and Ray Manning, both in Cambridgeshire.
Grover said Budgens' policy was to source only English apples and pears wherever possible.
