Budgens boosts British base

Independent retailer Budgens is to throw its weight behind British Food Fortnight for the fourth year running.

Taking place from September 22 to October 8, this annual celebration of the range and diversity of British food and drink will be expanding further this year. Budgens is keen to support British farmers and producers and identify further opportunities for partnerships which bring more British and local product to its customers, says the store.

“Budgens has long been an advocate of the Red Tractor assurance schemes and all the company’s own-label fruits and vegetables are British when in season,” said Ross Halliday, head of marketing at Budgens.

Budgens will be highlighting the event throughout the fortnight, using in-store posters and leaflets, and retailers will be working closely with their local communities to host a range of activities involved with local schools and regional food tastings.

Independent retailer Mark Richardson, speaking at a recent launch event for British Food Fortnight, said: “The potential of local food is massive. It not only boosts sales, but it’s good for local business and communities.”

Halliday commented: “With British Food Fortnight, we have built up a stable, long-term partnership based on shared values. The event is hugely important to Budgens, as it provides a perfect platform to salute our British producers.”
