Prime Minister Gordon Brown has acceded to a request from organic body the Soil Association to investigate the decline of pollinators, including honey bees and wild bees, in the UK.
The decision comes following a meeting today at the premier’s official residence, 10 Downing Street, attended by representatives of the association and Buglife. The groups are urging government to take action to make the UK countryside more bee-friendly.
Meanwhile, in the midst of the association’s Organic Food Fortnight, the group welcomed the changes made by Sarah Brown to the Downing Street garden with some organic food production and the introduction of flowers to attract bees.
