Dry weather conditions, particularly in the east of England, are causing difficulties for the broccoli market.

Lincolnshire especially has suffered from a dearth of rainfall.

Peter Davis of Davis (Louth) Ltd said: “We have had such dry weather that broccoli in Lincolnshire is dying a death. We should have another four to five weeks to run of English supplies, but we could finish in two weeks unless we get some decent rain. Everything is against it really because we have cool nights and there is still a bit of wind too.”

Some importers have brought in broccoli from the Netherlands, but they have been disappointed with quality. The market is now hopeful for the arrival of Spanish supplies.
