Only one in five Brits have ever tasted mango, with most favouring traditional apples and oranges to tropical fruits, a new study has found.

Press reports show that while 99 per cent have eaten apples and 93 per cent have tasted oranges, Brits are wary of more exotic fruits, with just 46 per cent saying they had tried a melon.

And despite rocketing sales since being labelled a superfood, only 42 per cent of Brits say they have tried a blueberry.

The findings were published by PassionLeaf, a fruit bouquet maker which conducted an online survey of 1,000 people.

Only 19 per cent have tried passionfruit, while 78 per cent have never eaten mango, 13 per cent have eaten pomegranate and just eight per cent have eaten lychees.

On the veg front, while 88 per cent of respondents said they had eaten broccoli and 90 per cent carrots, omly 13 per cent had tried celeriac and only 17 and 24 per cent had eaten bak choi and artichokes respectively.
