British Tomato Week (May 20 - 26) kicked off at a Harlow-based Asda store this week, with customers offered the chance to sample the supermarket's own-brand tomatoes by helper 'Tasmyn the tomato'.
The Stubbins Marketing team is promoting British tomatoes in supermarkets and independent retailers across the country throughout the week.
Asda said that the promotional week is the perfect opportunity to raise awareness of the vital work of British growers. Rachel Forth, events manager of the Asda Harlow store, said: 'British Tomato Week is an opportunity for Asda to push forward the message that fresh British tomatoes are good for you and that they taste great too. British-grown products require less 'food miles' and can be in our stores quicker than imported products, which means it’s fresher.'
Jet Marchione of Stubbins added that the week is 'progressing well' and is on course for another successful year in promoting the British tomato industry.
