British Potato 2007 set to be bigger than ever

The British Potato Council-led event for the UK sector - British Potato 2007 - is promising to be bigger than ever.

The two-day show kicks off on November 28 at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate.

More than 150 leading companies from the UK and Europe will exhibit at the show and, according to its organisers, the event will offer a comprehensive seed to supermarket approach. Some 6,000 visitors are expected to attend.

The theme of the conference - A Challenging Future - will track prospects for the potato industry, and a series of workshops and seminars will share research-related information in areas of potato-growing that are subject to the most change or external pressures.

The event is sponsored by UK supplier Branston Ltd.

An industry dinner will also provide networking opportunities.

Peak District hill farmer Peter Slack, well-known for his sharp humour, will be the after-dinner speaker.

The British Potato Industry Award, which recognises an individual for his or her outstanding to the British potato industry, will be presented at the event.

The event will also be a rare opportunity for UK growers to see all the key BPC staff representing their interests, from market information to storage, seed and export to research and agronomy.

The last British Potato event was held two years ago.
