The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has launched a ground-breaking guide for dealing with product recall.

The new Product Recall Guidelines were developed in conjunction with other trade associations and will act as a best practice guide to assist businesses to effectively deal with the potentially damaging situation of product recall.

Kevin Swoffer, head of technical services for the BRC said: 'Product recall is a highly complex process and the knowledge and experience across the supply chain varies widely. BRC has, with its members, produced comprehensive guidelines to assist those businesses that require guidance and advice.

'As retailers we have direct contact with consumers in the event of a product recall. The effectiveness of a product recall is dependent upon all those in the supply chain working together to minimise risk to the consumer.'
