George Bray, owner of B&S Fruits, has won a vote of members of the Western International Market Tenants’ Association (WIMTA), and will remain as chairman of the association through to the end of the market’s relocation to its new site later this year.

Bray retained the chair after 61 of the 65 member companies exercised their right to vote, returning a 32-29 result in favour of the incumbent.

The vote was called by WIMTA after a stormy AGM in December, during which Andrew Owen of Owen Owen (Western) Ltd called for Bray to tender his resignation.

Bray, below, admitted the result was “a little closer than I would have liked”, but said he is now committed to seeing through the redevelopment project. “It was pleasing to see that so many of the member companies voted - it was certainly the highest turnout we have ever had,” he told freshinfo.

“Andrew Owen has been offered a place on the WIMTA board, and he has accepted. He will now play a full role in helping to finish the process of relocating the market and its tenants,” Bray added.
