Potato supplier Branston has hosted a special event for greengrocers successfully completing nationwide food wholesaler Booker’s training programme.
As well as presentations from the Booker senior management team, the event at Branston provided an opportunity for greengrocers to understand the fresh potato supply chain. There was a presentation from Branston field director David Nelson, followed by factory tours.
Richard Clark, commercial director at Branston, said: “Not only did it [the event] provide us with an opportunity to build our relationship further with Booker, it also created an excellent working platform to engage with their greengrocers and increase their fresh potato product knowledge. We were able to give them a better understanding of how we work with potatoes and an appreciation of the attributes of different varieties and their uses. And when they are more knowledgeable about potatoes they can give a better service to their customers which in turn will help to maximise sales.”
Branston has been supplying Booker with potatoes since 2011 and became the wholesaler’s sole supplier of fresh potatoes last year. It has worked closely with its customer on reinvigorating its product range with new pack formats and freestanding display units for branches to showcase potato pre-packs.
Dominic Morrey, director of trading – fresh at Booker, said: “Our greengrocer training programme is a very important part of improving our service and I am delighted that we have so many dedicated and committed colleagues to help and advise our customers.”
