Potato supplier Branston has appointed a new research and development manager to its team.

Dr Apostolos Papadopoulos has joined the company to support existing development projects and lead new programs of research. Amongst his responsibilities, he will monitor external projects and manage field and laboratory trials, as well as develop and register innovative crop improvement products.

Since coming to the UK in 1998, he has gained an MSc in Crop Science and Management and a PhD in soil plant interactions, while gaining experience in the agrochemical industry.

He has also received a number of awards, including winning the Environment Young Entrepreneurs national competition sponsored by the National Environment Research Council.

Papadopoulos said: ”I am really excited about joining Branston as the new R&D manager. Branston is highly thought of in the industry and my experience and knowledge will contribute to the growth and continued success of the company.

"Through in-house research work and collaborations with world renowned academic and research institutes over the last few years, Branston has done much of the groundwork for the development of a range of innovative products. I am looking forward to the challenges of the role and on building on these foundations.”

Mark Willcox, Branston development director, said: “He has a good grounding in agricultural and environmental sciences, as well as practical experience of crop protection and nutrition technologies. We are looking forward to him continuing the development of our range of biocontrols and introducing new innovative technologies to combat the challenges of crop production and product quality.”
