Youngsters sample the pies

Young visitors to the National Fruit Show in Kent last week enjoyed sampling freshly cooked Bramley apple pie as part of the lead-up to celebrations for the bicentenary of the cooker in 2009.

Adrian Barlow, who heads up the Bramley campaign, said: “We want to demonstrate to all our visitors the reason why Bramley is the finest cooking apple in the world. It has the ability to carry the taste through the cooking process.”

Youngsters from local schools were out in force enjoying the samples. Barlow said: “It is dramatically important that we capture these younger consumers coming in - they are the consumers of tomorrow. This is the reason we have launched the Bramley website for kids.”

With parts of the campaign funded by the growers themselves, it was also important that they could see how their fruit was being promoted at the show, added Barlow.
