Bramley champions named

This year’s Brammy Award winners have been named, with Sainsbury’s collecting the coveted ‘Best Multiple Retailer’ gong.

The awards were created to acknowledge manufacturers, caterers and members of the media who have made an outstanding contribution to the sale and promotion of the variety throughout the year.

Marks & Spencer’s Puff Pastry Bramley Apple Pie took the People’s Choice for Best Family Bramley Apple Pie; Mr Kimpling Bramley Apple Pies were named Best Individual Bramley Apple Pie; Asda’s Bramley Apple Crumble got the nod for Best Other Bramley Dessert including Crumbles; and Best Savoury Bramley Product was Tesco’s Finest Pork & Bramley Apple Sausages.

Among numerous other winners were Phil Vickery, who was named Best Bramley Media Chef, and Jane Hornby of BBC Good Food, who took the award for Best Bramley Recipe Writer.

Outgoing Bramley Campaign chairman Ian Mitchell said: “Even though Bramley apples are unrivalled in terms of taste and texture, we are always impressed with the sheer volume and diversity of Bramley products available to the consumer. This year we were literally bowled over with the high standard.”
