Bradford St James Market has been named the best wholesale market in the UK.

The award was made as part of the Market of the Year 2011 competition organised by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) and software provider KPR Midlink.

“Bradford is perhaps one of the less well known wholesale markets, but a market that was considered to have led the way with a wide range of initiatives in operational areas and promoting partnership working with its traders,” said a NABMA spokesman.

Winners in other categories included Doncaster for best outdoor street market and Accrington for best indoor market hall. Ludlow won the best local council market and the Pershore Plum Festival Farmers’ Market won the best speciality market category.

The best small market was Bristol’s Brook Street Market and Britain’s favourite market was Leicester.
