BPOA makes Four Oaks debut

The British Protected Ornamentals Association’s transformation from its former guise as the British Pot and Bedding Plant Association is complete, after the organisation officially launched at the recent Four Oaks trade show.

The BPOA revamped itself in an attempt to appeal to a wider range of growers of protected ornamental plants, operating under the strapline ‘Growing Together’.

Chairman Phil Austen said that the association is planning a number of initiatives over the coming two years which will look at raising awareness of the organisation’s objectives.

Among these will be the launch of a new website where members can access all the BPOA’s resources, including detailed technical information and details of planned BPOA marketing initiatives to increase sales.

“The BPOA has a long history of influence in the horticultural industry and at government level. Modernising the image of the association reflects the up-to-date involvement needed in any ever-changing business environment,” Austen said.

Meanwhile Austen’s firm, West Island Group, is developing an entirely water soluble label for produce which effectively disappears in water, allowing supermarkets to tick another box in terms of environmental sustainability.
