bpi.visqueen has revealed details of some of the new technology installed as part of a £7 million investment programme its enhanced Ardeer factory.

The state-of-the-art production machinery now located at the facility includes a five layer wide width film line thought to be amongst the widest and most advanced anywhere in the world.

Much of the information regarding the new line remains closely guarded but bpi.visqueen has disclosed that the line is able to produce films up to 22 metres across.

As it can co-extrude films comprising of five individual layers it will help bpi.visqueen to break new ground in terms of product development and to further advance its range of ‘smart’ films which enable the active management of ambient light and temperature in a variety of climatic conditions.

Specifically, the manufacturer will be able to tailor each film layer to offer specific performance characteristics, all with the ultimate goal of helping growers to improve both their crop quality and yield.

The line’s advanced nature also provides bpi.visqueen with precision control of film width and thickness as well as of polymer blend, dosing and of any additives used in a film’s production. This will ensure films of exceptional consistency and quality which bpi.visqueen will support with its existing and stringent QA systems.

Roy McAdoo, commercial director at bpi.visqueen, said: “The multi-million pound investment at our Ardeer site has seen many new and exciting additions and enhancements to the factory - and none more so than our new five layer wide film line. We’re proud of it, of its capabilities and of its remarkable nature. We’ve every confidence that customers will share this excitement once they experience some of the new and existing products it will be used to produce.”
