Horticultural films manufacturer bpi.visqueen has staged an international conference for its customers, suppliers and key research partners.

Representatives from as far afield as Turkey and Egypt travelled to the event which was held at the manufacturer’s Ardeer factory to coincide with the completion of a £7 million investment project at the site last month.

The two-day event including a factory tour and a series of presentations on subjects such as the management of UV light to help control crop diseases, crop yield and quality and plant responses to temperature control via spectral filters by experts from both bpi.visqueen and its research partners at the universities of Reading and Lancaster took place.

Those taking to the lectern included Dr Nigel Paul, professor of plant science at Lancaster University and a member of the UN Environment Programme panel on the interactive effects of ozone depletion and climate change on health and the environment, as well as Dr Paul Hadley from The Centre for Horticulture and Landscape in The School of Biological Sciences at University of Reading.

Roy McAdoo, commercial director at bpi.visqueen, said: “bpi.visqueen has a commitment to advancing the science and success of horticultural films production which manifests itself in many ways and on many levels. In order to offer growers the benefit of technically advanced products, we believe in continually investing into new production technology and into on-going scientific research. Staging our own conference allowed us to showcase our latest achievements in both of these areas.”
