Grantham in Lincolnshire will host a Processing Workshop organised by the British Potato Council (BPC) on April 29. The information packed day begins at 9.30am at Stoke Rochford Hall, beside the A1, followed by further presentations at the state-of-the-art storage facilities of CEP Potatoes, Colsterworth.

'The workshop is a consequence of the industry asking the BPC to help the processing sector continue its quest to improve quality and supply consistency,' explained operations director of the BPC's Sutton Bridge Experimental Unit, Adrian Cunnington.

'In response, we have gathered together some of Europe's leading industry experts. By attending, visitors will benefit from a wealth of practical advice and capitalise from the latest results of BPC-funded research and development. In addition, experts will be available to help problem solve individual issues. A similar workshop in Lancashire held last year was over-subscribed and visitors scored it as highly relevant to their business,' he adds.

'The subject areas will tackle a vast range of issues faced by the processing sector from agronomy through to storage and offer timely advice to use now and in following seasons. What's more, with the trend continuing for processed crops to be washed on farms and at stores, visitors will learn how to achieve proper cleaning practices without falling foul of strict environmental legislation.' Cunnington said the workshop is free and relevant to all parts of the processing supply chain from growers through to processors and is a must attend day. 'It is another example of how the industry, through better integration, is improving communication to everybody's benefit.'
