Planning for the British Potato Council’s ‘Grow Your Own Potatoes’ scheme across UK schools in summer 2007 is already underway.
BPC spokeswoman Catherine Lange said: “Earlier this year over 1,100 schools - one in ten - took part and now we’re aiming for one in five, making this one of the largest schemes of its kind.
“A number of levy payers helped us with recruitment last year and were very successful because of a personal, local approach carries extra weight.
“We provide all the necessary support to the school, including a wide range of resources tailored to the curriculum and endorsed by authoritative nutritionists and educationalists.”
