Winning the (NABMA) award for Best Speciality Market has allowed London’s Borough Market to “at last take a place at the top table, with all the other big London markets”, said Borough Market trustee George Nicholson.

NABMA chief executive Graham Wilson, who presented the award last month, said that Borough Market was a landmark in London for serving the community and its food offer.

Nicholson said that he believed that Borough Market has always been out on a limb, even though because of its wholesale market offer, it is largest in London.

Since the market’s regeneration 10 years ago, the Borough Market’s trustees have seen the market go through many changes, and winning the NABMA award has signalled a turning point for them.

“This award means that Borough Market can come out of the bushes and take its rightful place among the other large markets in London, and receive the recognition it deserves,” Nicholson stated.
