The Covent Garden Real Food Market in London has poached market manager Chris Denning from Borough Market to head up its own Saturday fresh produce offering.

Denning was pivotal in the transformation of Borough Market and is intent on continuing the growing success of the Covent Garden Real Food Market, now the only market in the West End where foodies can pick up top quality fresh produce at the weekend.

He will also be charged with growing the offering of the world famous Apple Market, the West End craft hub best-known for handmade craft, design and antiques produced within the UK.

Denning said: “The reason for my decision to move to Covent Garden was the overwhelming desire to raise the bar of fresh produce available in the West End at the weekend, to attract the finest producers from the UK to trade in Covent Garden, and to work in one of London’s most famous public spaces.”

Covent Garden brand director Bev Churchill said: “Now in its fourth year, The Covent Garden Real Food Market has been a huge success and with Chris Denning joining as market manager we are continuing to demonstrate our commitment to quality in making the market the ultimate destination for fresh produce in central London.”

This year Covent Garden is celebrating the 180th anniversary of the market building with a range of activities celebrating Covent Garden’s heritage including a full celebration on the anniversary weekend of 18-20 June.

The critically acclaimed Food Bloggers stall is also making a comeback to the Real Food Market.
