Booths reports strong Christmas

North West supermarket Booths has reported a surge in sales over the festive period with like-for-like sales up 2.5 per cent on a year earlier.

The retailer, which has 26 stores across the North, said it had seen an 8.4 per cent increase in sales for the 12 trading days over Christmas and New Year.

Trading director Chris Dee said its sales were boosted by record sales in food and drink.

Dee said: "We are pleased with the results and continue to be competitive on prices, while maintaining the quality of our offer.

"2009 has been a challenging year, especially towards the end of the year when severe weather conditions affected a number of our stores across a two-week period."

Booths also saw strong demand for its online services over the Christmas period.
