Booths chairman rides into town

Booths chairman Edwin Booth rode into the car park of the retailers’ new Hesketh Bank store as the Lancashire outlet opened this month.

The next stage in Booths’ expansion plan to extend stores across the north of the country saw Booth pull in on a traditional horse-drawn carriage.

He was then followed in convoy by three cherry red 1930s fruit and vegetable trucks.

The restored vintage trucks were supplied by Tarleton-based fresh produce supplier Huntapac’s chairman William Hunter.

Hunter said: “The opening of the new store has marked an important occasion the long history of our relationship with Booths, not only were we the supplier of produce to the company but we were also given the privilege of being involved with the opening day itself.

"The inclusion of the vintage vehicles gave the opening a historic twist and is not something your average supermarket does.”

Booths now operates 26 sites throughout the north of England, with further expansion planned in 2011.
