Asda has appointed Andy Bond to the position of president following the departure of Tony DeNunzio.
The former chief operating officer takes over the role with immediate effect, the retailer said.
Bond, 40, was appointed to the COO role in September last year, following four years at the helm of the George clothing business, where he led and oversaw the significant growth of the brand and its international expansion.
Prior to that, Bond, who joined the retailer in 1994, was director of Asda’s private label food business and marketing director. Most recently, as COO, he directed the retailer’s store and logistics operation.
John Menzer, president and chief executive officer of Wal-Mart International, said: “Asda has a deep and strong management team, and an equally strong culture.
We are pleased to have the opportunity to appoint someone from inside the business. It is clear to us that Andy is the right person to lead the next phase of Asda's success.”
DeNunzio left Asda after 12 years with the retailer and was the latest in a long line of high profile departures from the company’s board. He is now to become chairman of Dutch retailer Vendex.
