Blueberry growers vote yes

Blueberry growers and importers in the US have voted to continue their promotion, research and information order.

The US department of agriculture conducted a referendum in July and announced last week that 88 per cent of eligible voters, representing 98 per cent of the volume of blueberries produced or imported support continuing the program. With a majority of votes and a majority of the volume, the referendum passed.

The research and promotion programme is a self-help programmed funded through industry member assessments and administered by board members selected by the US secretary of agriculture. It allows the blueberry sector to carry out promotion, market and production research as well as new product development for the benefit of their industry.
