Biospain 2008, southern Europe’s largest biotech event to date, is to take place in Granada on 17-19 September.
Biospain will comprise five modules: a science congress, an investors’ forum, a partnering event, a trade show and a series of plenary sessions entitled ‘Towards a Sustainable Economy’.
The star speakers will be Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, chairwoman of Biocon, Asia’s main biotech company, and Kenneth P Morse, director of the MIT entrepreneurs programme in the US.
Speakers will discuss the links between biotechnology, sustainable development and economic competitiveness, and explore biotech applications in many spheres, including food and energy.
The show is directed at companies, academics, researchers, financiers and bodies related to the Spanish and international biotech sectors.
The Spanish biotechnology sector has grown by more than 20 per cent during the last five years, with more than 200 companies emerging in the period, supported by a public research systemwhich contributes around four per cent of biotech research worldwide.
