Warwick University will hold a one-day meeting on the use of biopesticides in sustainable crop protection this autumn.
Taking place on October 18 at the Royal Agricultural Society of England showground, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, the meeting forms part of a university research project on the environmental and regulatory sustainability of biopesticides as alternatives to chemical pesticides in the food chain - a collaboration between the UK Rural Economy and Land Use initiative.
Biopesticides are pest management tools that are based on beneficial micro-organisms, nematodes or other biologically-based active ingredients that can contribute to sustainable crop protection of plants, and ca be highly valuable components of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), according to the university.
Speakers at the meeting include the university’s Prof Wyn Grant and Dr David Chandler, Dr Mark Whittaker from Koppert UK, Dr Don Edgecomb from AgraQuest, Sacramento, California, and Clare Butler Ellis from the Pesticides Action Network.
Emmett Lunny, a senior technologist at Marks and Spencer will deliver a speech from a retailer’s perspective.
