Phil Bicknell is set to take over as head of food and farming at the NFU.
Philip Hudson, the incumbent, is due to leave his role at the end of next week (w/c 27 October), with Bicknell, chief economist at the NFU since April 2011, due to take over at the start of November.
Bicknell has previously worked for Potato Council, Bidwells, and the US department of agriculture.
Hudson, meanwhile, has been at the union for almost 25 years in a variety of roles that included chief horticultural adviser.
He does not have another position lined up but told FPJ last month he will be pursuing other projects and interests.
