BHTA forges closer links

The British Herb Trade Association (BHTA) is benefiting from closer links with the Horticultural Development Council and Adas and is drawing up a strategy of work for 2006.

Association members met in Devon at the end of last month for their annual general meeting and conference and to hear presentations from Adas and the Eden Project, and on crop protection, and regulatory issues as well as an update on the state of the industry in Australia.

The association also elected a new chairman - Mathew Prestwich of R&G Fresh Herb Solutions replaces Ray Marriott of Botanix for a two-year term. “This is now such an important event for everyone involved in all areas of herb production,” said Prestwich. “With so many issues affecting our industry, it is vital to have a strong and cohesive BHTA to fight our corner. Those who were not here have missed out on a great deal of vital information, and I would encourage more members to attend and any company wishing to join to contact us.”

More than 40 members attended the one-day event in Exeter.
