Belgian Electronic Sorting Technology (BEST) has launched BEST Primus Gemini to sort and grade fresh blueberries, cherries and even cranberries.

The Belgian company has developed the new machine using all the latest optical components in a brand new and improved mechanical setup.

It can sort according to colour and condition and send rejects into two separate areas maximising yields and minimising potentially damaging fruit drop.

“This can give growers the added benefit to improve quality significantly and reduce rejections,” said BEST’s Bjorn Thumas. “With our machine they can pick all the fruit from the bushes and the machine will pick out any that is hail damaged, for instance, and it can then go for juicing. Before, the grower would have to leave the fruit on the bushes after hail as it would be too labour intensive to try and pick only fruit that wasn’t damaged.”
