Best of British for Bramley Campaign

The Bramley Campaign has teamed up with top chefs including Phil Vickery and Heston Blumenthal as part of Bramley Apple Week next month.

The event, which is to run from February 4-11, will focus on the burgeoning trend for gastro pubs.

An eight-page supplement in the February issue of top food magazine Delicious will feature Vickery’s apple flan and Blumenthal’s apple sauce. Award-winning gastro pub chef Trish Hilferty is to supply step-by-step instructions for a raised pork and Bramley apple pie.

The supplement marks the culmination of a nationwide recipe competition to explore the versatility of the fruit.

The Bramley Campaign has also undertaken an intensive media relations campaign intended to remind TV chefs and food writers of the unique cooking properties and superior taste of the cooking apples.

Adrian Barlow, of The Bramley Campaign, said: “Gastro pubs are the culinary craze sweeping the nation and with delicious classic British recipes and locally sourced produce on the menu, Bramley is the perfect ingredient.

“We want to remind people how easy it is to cook up a classic dish such as Bramley crumble or Bramley sauce at home, by tempting them with ideas from some of the UK's top chefs.”
