BerryWorld takes 5 A DAY supporter award

BerryWorld has won the 5 A DAY Supporter of the Year accolade at this year’s Re:fresh awards, for the introduction of its ready-to-eat blueberry snack pack, Snackerries.

Snackerries has taken a popular fruit and made it more accessible, making it vital to the department of health’s 5 A DAY campaign. The 80g snack pack is the equivalent to one of your 5 A DAY and offers an opportunity to increase penetration rate by attracting younger consumers - which is important as nearly half of all blueberries are consumed by females over 45 - and encourage snacking on blueberries at any time of the day.

The snack pack allows blueberries to be accessible to everyone in a convenient snack format, and the packs are available in Tesco, The Co-op, Morrisons and Asda. The product’s dedicated website - www.snackerries.com - offers consumers a wealth of information about the health benefits of the superfood.

The judges said: “By using innovative packaging and promotion of its blueberries, BerryWorld is encouraging consumption of the recognised superfood.” Finalists in the category were JP Fresh and York’s Stockbridge Technology Centre.

Owned by fresh produce distributors Poupart Ltd, BerryWorld was established in 1994 to specialise in soft fruit. The company represents growers covering more than 2,500 acres of soft-fruit production in the UK, Europe, North and South America, the Middle East and South Africa.
