Specialist berry supplier AFI Direct Sales reports that lower temperatures are leading to a drop in everbearer strawberry availability. Bolero, Everest and Diamante growers are working hard on quality selection to try and boost disappointing price levels.

Meanwhile, good quality Elsanta grown under glass in increasing volumes is complementing the offer and smaller punnets of 227g are helping to drive sales, reports AFI. The company's producers are being encouraged to hold production back and extend the availability of glasshouse fruit into October.

Raspberries are still going strong from UK sources with steady supplies of Joan J, Joan Squire and Joan Irene all available. However, imports are being called on from Spain's Valle del Jerte to supplement this end of season fruit and AFI is brining in Autumn Bliss and will soon have Glen Lyon on stream.
