Berry Gardens reports sales rise

Berry Gardens has marked its 40th anniversary by reporting an 11 per cent boost in annual sales to £214 million.

Growers supplying the UK soft-fruit marketing company will this year receive a share of a £3m rebate pool, up from £2m last year.

Speaking at the co-operative’s AGM on 1 May, chairman Paul Kelsey said Berry Gardens had much to celebrate. “The results support our assertion that the grower-owned co-operative model can deliver sustained long-term success for members within the highly competitive UK fruit and vegetable sector.

“Our members will have received in excess of £5m in rebates over a two-year period, providing vital funds for their own businesses and underpinning our own positive outlook for the future of Berry Gardens.”
