East Malling fruit pathologist Dr Angela Berrie has been awarded the David Hilton Memorial Award for 'services to the fruit industry in Kent and beyond'.

Berrie was presented with her award at the East Kent Fruit Society AGM on 28 January by society president Simon Brice.

Society chairman David Bradley said: “It is wonderful to be recognising the outstanding contribution that Angela has made to the fruit-growing industry in Kent during her 21 years at East Malling. It is heartening for us all that Angela is not launching completely into retirement and that she will be continuing to serve industry on a part-time basis for years to come!”

The David Hilton Memorial Award is an annual presentation set up in the name of fruit grower David Hilton, who dedicated much time to aid the fortunes of growers in east Kent. Previous recipients of the award have included growers, managers, advisers, research scientists, technologists, lecturers and others from key industry roles.
