Bellaverde: nominated

The long-stemmed broccoli variety Bellaverde has been nominated for the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award 2010.

The product has been cultivated by the European arm of vegetable seed specialist Monsanto and is said to have a "unique, sweet taste".

It was launched in July this year across the UK in co-operation with Marshalls/Produce World and is now available in more than 500 Sainsbury's and Waitrose stores across the country.

The product will sit alongside nine other nominees for the 2010 Fruit Logistica Innovation Award, presented at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds trade fair in February.

Bellaverde broccoli will be introduced to markets in the Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia, Spain and Italy in spring 2010, according to Monsanto.
