The Malines auctions in Belgium have started selling an extensive range of “forgotten vegetables” under the Bel'Orta label.
A spokesperson said: “Bel'Orta has already secured itself a place in the niche market for forgotten vegetables this year, and we want to carry on supporting the label and expand it still further. Growing forgotten vegetables is definitely catching on, especially among young growers.”
The lines that are enjoying most success are glasshouse runner beans, parsnips, beetroot and even black salsify.
“The vegetables are also getting a lot of coverage in the Flemish media, and consumers are clearly coming on board,” the spokesperson said.
