The Exosex mating disruption technology in use

Intelligent pest-management solution provider Exosect’s active mating disruption technology, Exosex CM, has been registered for commercial use in Belgium.

Following successful launches in the UK, the US and most recently in South Africa and New Zealand, Exosex CM will now be available in Belgium, where it will be marketed under the trade name Exomone C.

Exosex CM is used to control the population of the codling moth, a destructive global pest of apples and pears. It is an innovative active mating disruption solution, engineered to effectively reduce the population of the pest when used as part of an integrated pest management (IPM) strategy.

Ton Besseling of Makhteshim said: “We are delighted to be working with Exosex CM in Belgium. This environmentally conscious system will support Makhteshim’s IPM programme, and importantly provide support to growers for whom pesticide residue levels are a key issue.”

Bruno Gobin, entomologist at the pcfruit research station in Gorsem, has been working with Exosex CM for the past two years. “The results have been very good and I have been impressed with the success of Exosex CM as part of an IPM solution,” he said. “It goes a long way to meeting the growing demand for zero pesticide residues.”
