The Asiafruit Congress, in the Chinese capital of Beijing from April 8-10 and Asia Fruit Expo attracted 630 fresh produce delegates from 35 different countries, a new attendance record for the annual event.

Now in its ninth year, the bumper turnout was testament to the level of interest generated by China's fresh produce industry. Securing viable access to China's growing consumer market formed a key part of the conference discussions, delegates were also invited to witness first-hand one of Beijing's hypermarket stores on the Wal-Mart tour.

The Asia Fruit Expo ran alongside the conference sessions, with close to 30 exhibitors. The event set the scene for Asia Fruit Logistica, a new trade fair for international fresh produce marketing in Asia, which will be launched in Bangkok, Thailand, from September 5-7, 2007, in conjunction with the 10th Asiafruit Congress.
