Bees sent to Coventry

As fears grow about the decline of Britain’s bees, Garden Organic is teaming up with the Warwickshire Beekeepers Association to launch a new apiary cabin on Saturday June 9.

To celebrate 75 years championing the beekeeping cause, the Coventry branch of the Warwickshire Beekeepers Association has formed a partnership with Garden Organic, and created a new beehive complex at Garden Organic Ryton near Coventry.

The apiary cabin, a complex of four hives, will be managed by the Coventry branch, and is situated behind the orchard in the Ryton gardens.

As well as housing the bees, it will be used as an all year round training centre, running courses and demonstrations to encourage more people to keep bees of their own.

Peter Spencer, chairman of Warwickshire Beekeepers Coventry branch, explained: “This cabin will be used as a teaching apiary, using the latest techniques for controlling varroa. It has been a terrific team effort and we really appreciate all the help and support that Garden Organic have given us.”
